January 16, 1920, marked the beginning of the prohibition of alcohol, but Ruth, Dodie and Fannie refused to let this put a damper on their parties. Three knocks on their door and Dodie’s voice replied, “What’s the password?” “Apple Pie,” was the correct answer. The heavy door would open, and a warm welcome to the 3 Sisters Speakeasy would follow. Ruth, the lone cigar smoker, could be found behind the bar mixing her famous cocktails. Although Fannie’s responsibilities included serving drinks, she usually drank more than she served. Their delectable drinks and hors d’oeuvres were the best in town, but more importantly, all felt their zest for friends, family, and their community. The spirit of these Three Sisters is still alive in Downtown Kissimmee today.
